Monthly job fair seeks to help residents improve skills, find jobs

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Cheyenne Workforce Center launched a new monthly job fair seeking to connect local job seekers with employers. The fair, called "Workforce Wednesdays," will take place on the second Wednesday of each month at the Cheyenne Business Center.

Denise Rodriguez, Business Representative for the Cheyenne Workforce Center, says the first of the series of job fairs featured 11 local employers and had a turnout of more than 40 job seekers. "The first of our Workforce Wednesday job fairs had a great turnout," Rodriguez said, "employers told us they appreciated having a smaller, local job fair, and were enthusiastic about attending future fairs." Rodriguez also said the smaller venue made potential employees more comfortable, and provided ample opportunity for conversations with employers.

Businesses attending the Workforce Wednesday job fairs will all be hiring. Some of the industries actively recruiting include: healthcare, education, energy, customer service, maintenance and food service. Each month a new slate of local business will be in attendance.

Job seekers attending the fairs are encouraged to bring résumés and dress for interviews. The next Workforce Wednesday job fair will be held on February 13.

Businesses looking for employees may register for upcoming job fairs by calling the Cheyenne Workforce Center at (307) 777-3700.

The Cheyenne Workforce Center also will also be hosting skill-building workshops on the first Wednesday of each month, to help prospective employees with cover letters, résumés and interview skills. Interested parties may call the Cheyenne Workforce Center at (307) 777-3700, for more information.
