Dads Making a Difference Comes to Laramie County

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is proud to present a new pilot program, Dads Making a Difference.

"We wanted to design a program that would provide single parenting dads the opportunity to obtain the training necessary to get a better paying job so that they could make their child support payments and make a more positive contribution to the family as a whole." explains Jeff White, Program Manager for the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. "The motto for this program is to empower Wyoming dads and strengthen Wyoming families."

This program is spearheaded by two Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Divisions: The Business Training & Outreach Division, bringing to the table innovative training ideas and a low income parenting adult population, and the Employment Services Division, bringing the on-the-job training and job placement aspect.

"We are looking for 10-12 participants, custodial or non-custodial fathers earning 185 percent below the federal poverty guidelines. They will receive not only training in industrial systems technology, but also case management services throughout the training, assistance with job placement and follow up services after training is complete," White adds.

The training will take place in March, 2008. Those interested in applying should contact Christina West at the Cheyenne Workforce Center 777-3717. For more information about the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, please visit www.wyomingworkforce.org.
