Benefit Outreach Sessions for Wyoming Veterans
CHEYENNE - Many Wyoming Military veterans don't know all the benefits they're entitled to even years after they proudly served.
To this, the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs benefits office in Cheyenne is hosting a series of five outreach sessions across the state to explain all the benefits veterans may be entitled to.
Veterans can ask and get information about medical, disability and other insurance benefits. They can also ask about education benefits, even guaranteed home loans.
Ken Johnson, veterans representative for the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, says these outreach sessions are wonderful for the VA to offer.
"Many veterans have questions even years after their military service asking if I'm eligible for this benefit, or can I obtain this benefit," said Johnson. He continued, "many times they are eligible, but they just don't know how to go about getting it. This is a great way for them to get the benefits they deserve."
Joan Evans, director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, agrees. She says local veterans will benefit greatly from these outreach sessions.
"The VA is a wonderful partner of ours in service Wyoming veterans. Many times, veterans who come to us for employment and they also ask us about their VA benefits." Evans continued, "so these outreach sessions are designed to help answer any questions they may have, whether its about employment or anything else. It's surprising how many veterans don't know about all the benefits they are entitled to."
The sessions are being held Monday, January 12 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the University of Wyoming Student Hall, 1000 East University Avenue in Laramie; Wednesday, January 14 from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Wyoming Workforce Center, 422 East Fremont Avenue in Riverton; Wednesday, January 14 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Rocky Mountain Gymnasium, 15 North Fork Road in Fort Washakie; Thursday, January 15 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the National Guard Armory, 728 North Park in Thermopolis, and Friday January 16 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Douglas Courthouse (Community Room), 107 North 5th Street in Douglas.
All honorably discharged veterans and their families are invited to attend the outreach sessions. A spokesman for the VA benefits office in Cheyenne says veterans who attend these meetings will have the opportunity to talk directly with VA benefits staff members.
