Employment Workshop... Only Those 50 & Older Need Apply

SHERIDAN - A first of its kind employment workshop will be held later this month in Sheridan. The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is hosting an employment workshop for those 50 and older who are looking for a job or even a new career!

The workshop will be held on Thursday, January 22 at the Sheridan Workforce Center, 61 South Gould. It starts at 2:30 p.m.

Kate Taylor, Workforce Specialist at the Sheridan Workforce Center, said the workshop will offer the perfect setting for those aged 50 and older who are looking for work.

"They benefit from a workshop environment because there's other people in the room with them of similar ages that have also been experiencing possible challenges with employment or questions in what they want to do differently now that they are maybe finished with one career and want to try something new," said Taylor.

Taylor also said the workshop will offer help with resumes and how to fill represent themselves on an application so they don't appear under qualified or even over qualified for a particular job.

Joan Evans, Director for the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, said older workers many times can offer more to perspective employer than their younger counterparts.

"Mature workers offer an established work ethic and dedication to both their jobs and their employer," said Evans. She continued, "Our mature workers are generally settled, stable in their personal lives and that can be very comforting to employers."

Taylor says future workshops will be held the third Thursday of each month at the Sheridan Workforce Center.
