Careebuilder.com Ranks Casper The #2 Market To Find a Job

Casper prides itself in claiming to be Wyoming's "Fun Capital!"  Now, Casper can call itself one of the best markets in America to find a job!

Careerbuilder.com has ranked Casper as the second best market in America for jobseekers to find work.  According to company's webpage, Casper's low unemployment rate, which was 2.5 percent in September, 2008, when the rankings were compiled, warrants its number two position.

Joan Evans, Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, said she is not surprised where Casper is ranked.

"Its not surprising Casper would pop up as a top choice for one of the best markets to find a job,"  Evans said.  She continued, "I think Casper, not unlike most of our Wyoming communities offers a job seeker a great place to work, live, raise a family, and participate in those recreational activities that they love to do."

Bismarck, North Dakota is ranked as the number one market to find a job.  According to Careerbuilder.com, Logan, Utah, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Morgantown, West Virginia are ranked three through five.

Recent unemployment figures for December show Wyoming has the lowest unemployment rate of any state in the country.  December's unemployment rate for Wyoming was 3.2 percent.  In fact, Wyoming and four of its neighbors (North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Nebraska), had unemployment rates of 3.7 or lower last month.

Ernie Goss, an economics professor at Creighton University in Nebraska, says the states are insulated but not isolated from the effects of the recession. He says the states largely avoided the turbulent housing boom and bust.  Goss says another source of strength for Wyoming is that its largest employment sector - government - remains healthy because the budget has not been plagued by declines in real estate, income and retail tax collections.
