Dads Set to Graduate from Training Program on Tuesday
CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Dads Making a Difference Program will be celebrating another graduating class of dads on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cheyenne-Kiwanis Community House at 4603 Lions Park Drive. An open house and reception will immediately follow.
The Department partnered with Sage Technical Services to provide the dads commercial truck driving training and with the McMurry Training Center to provide the dads Heavy Equipment Operator training. Both of these trainings are designed to prepare the dads for entering the workforce in these fields.
Joan Evans, Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, said, "We are proud to have worked with our partners at Sage and the McMurry Training Center. Together, we have created a program that provides better opportunities for the participants."
Jeff White, Program Manager for the Dads Making a Difference program is proud of this years participants. "When we first stared this program about a year and half ago, I don't think we ever really dreamed that it would succeed as quickly as it has. The growth of this program has exceeded our expectations."
The Dads Making a Difference Program was created to assist dads in achieving employment and in contributing to their child(ren)s well-being. By participating, the dads can:
- access training to prepare for a worthwhile career with higher paying wages,
- become gainfully employed, self-sufficient and contributing to their dependent children's financial well-being
- become more involved in their dependent children's emotional, social and physical development,
- acquire skills for good parenting, and
- when possible, working together as a team with custodial parent for the benefit of their dependent children.
"This group of dads successfully completed the commercial truck driving course as well as heavy equipment operating. We have five graduates this time which will bring the total number of graduates for the Dads Making a Difference Program to 23," White added. "We've expanded the program into Rock Springs and will soon be starting the fourth Dads Making a Difference class in 2010."
The public is invited to attend the graduation ceremony. RSVPs are being received at (307) 777-3717. For more information on the Dads Making a Difference Program or the Department of Workforce Services, please visit wyomingworkforce.org, call 877-WORK-WYO or find us on Facebook.
