July 26th Marks 20 Years of the Americans With Disabilities Act
CHEYENNE - Governor Dave Freudenthal has proclaimed July 26th as "Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Day" in Wyoming in recognition of the ADA's 20th Anniversary. The Proclamation reads as follows:
WHEREAS, July 26th, 1990, President George H. Bush signed into law the Americans With Disabilities Act to ensure the civil rights with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, this legislation established clear and comprehensive national mandates for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the ADA has expanded opportunities for Americans with disabilities by reducing barriers, changing perceptions, and increasing full participation in community life; and
WHEREAS, on the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act, we celebrate and recognize the progress that has been made under the ADA by reaffirming the principles of equality and inclusion and recommitting Wyoming's support for the ADA;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVE FREUDENTHAL, Governor of the State of Wyoming, do hereby proclaim July 26, 2010, as "AMERICANS WITH DISABILTIES ACT DAY" in Wyoming.
Joan Evans, Director of the Department of Workforce Services, appreciates the Governor taking the time out to recognize the importance of the American Disabilities Act and the people it serves. "I'm delighted that Governor Freudenthal has proclaimed today as Americans With Disabilities Act Day," Evans said. "The Department of Workforce Services and our Vocational Rehabilitation Division want to be able to expand opportunities for Americans with Disabilities, help them to reduce their barriers, change perception and really just increase a full participation in community life."
