Wyoming Senior Community Service Program State Coordination Plan Released

CHEYENNE - The Department of Workforce Services has released its Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) State Plan for public comment.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is the only federally sponsored employment and training program targeted at low-income older workers. The SCSEP is funded by the United States Department of Labor under Title V of the Older Americans Act. The SCSEP provides employment services to adults age 55 and older who: 1) have an income at or below 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Guideline, 2) are unemployed, 3) are residents of the state of Wyoming and 4) have poor employment prospects. The employment services include comprehensive training, case management and a part-time subsidized community service job training opportunity. The goal of the program is to transition participants into unsubsidized employment earning a self-sufficient wage or more.

"The State Plan is an opportunity for the State to take a longer term, strategic view of the SCSEP's role in workforce development in the state given projected changes in the demographics, economy and labor market over the next four years," explains Danielle Hunt, Program Manager for the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. "The purpose of the SCSEP is to: 1) address the role of the SCSEP relative to other workforce programs and initiatives, including programs serving older workers, and 2) articulate how all the grantees operating in the state examine and, as appropriate, plan longer-term changes to the design of the program within Wyoming, so as to better achieve the goals of the program."
