When Eric applied for services from DVR, he had been employed at a local restaurant for almost twelve years as a dishwasher/kitchen helper. It was obvious from the beginning that Eric takes his job seriously and is a very devoted employee. However, he was at risk of losing his job due to a cataract on his right eye. In July of 2012 Eric had cataract surgery on his left eye with Lions Club donating a portion of the cost. Although he has insurance, it would not cover any of the cost. Eric set up a payment plan to cover the remaining cost out of his gross income of $1400/month.
By providing the medical services Eric needed to restore his sight, DVR was able to help Eric maintain his employment, a job that he values.Without any other resources to help with the surgery on his right eye, Eric was referred to DVR by his surgeon. Eric was having problems at work reading labels on boxes when he helped to unload freight, problems reading as well as peripheral vision, and he was very frustrated with his inability to see in regard to the tasks of his job. His vision had not only become a matter of not being able to complete his assigned tasks, but it was also a safety issue.
By providing the medical services Eric needed to restore his sight, DVR was able to help Eric maintain his employment, a job that he values. Eric is a very ethical, honest team player who is dedicated to his employer, is dependable, and strives to help others whenever he sees a need. Whenever either the DVR Counselor or Assistant are in the restaurant, Eric continues to express his gratitude for VR's assistance to restore his vision, allowing him to remain in his chosen occupation with an employer he knows and respects.
