Joshua Elkins has a rare, chronic skin and gland disorder which requires him to work in a sedentary environment. In addition, Joshua has learning disabilities that create a significant challenge for him to complete the required educational degree necessary to work in this occupation.
When a career goal was being discussed, Joshua indicated that he wanted a job in which he is able to help others. After much discussion, Joshua determined that he wanted to work as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. He completed his college degree locally through Western Wyoming Community College and the University of Wyoming Outreach Programs....it is so rewarding for a DVR Counselor when clients accomplish their goals.
Joshua also gained employment experience while he was attending college, because he worked as an Independent Job Coach for six years. Joshua's personal experience of receiving services through the Wyoming Division of Vocational Rehabilitation has provided a strong foundation for him to build upon. He has a good understanding of various disabilities and how they impact the client's ability to obtain employment.
Joshua has worked extremely hard to accomplish his vocational goals and it is so rewarding for a DVR Counselor when clients accomplish their goals.
